How To Create A Facebook Ad Account

Most entrepreneurs eventually reach a point that they are making sales through their normal channels, but they can really increase their sales through Facebook Ads. After all, earning $10,000 without ads is great, but imagine how much more you could be earning with ads!

Before you can start running ads, you first must have created a Facebook Business Page and a Facebook Business Manager. If you haven’t done these 2 things yet, make sure to read the earlier articles in this tutorial series.

Once you are ready to run ads, it’s time to create your first ad account!

Getting Started

The first important thing to note is you will likely already have a personal ad account tied to your Facebook profile. This means that you can run ads directly from your personal account, but I recommend setting yourself up with a separate account for your business.

First, it’s a good idea to keep your Facebook personal life separate from your business life. As your business grows, it will be important to keep work and personal expenses separate for tax purposes, and for general ease of use.

Also, in order to use the Facebook Business Manager and the tools it provides, it must be tied to your Business Page. Again, if you are a solo entrepreneur and have a business page in your own name for your entrepreneurial tasks that is completely fine. You just want to separate your business and personal Facebook life when possible!

Step 1: Locating Create New Ad Account

To get started, you should have a Business Manager account all set up and your Business Page added into it.

Next, go to This should open up your ad account for your Business Page.

If it opens up your ad account for your personal page, make sure to switch it to your business page by clicking the drop down in the top left and select your business page.

Click “Add”, which will open up the following options. Click the bottom “Create a New Ad Account” option.

Step 2: Enter Account Information

A box will pop up asking you to enter information about your new Ad Account.

Enter your business name for the Ad Account name, choose the proper time zone, and the correct currency for where your business is based.

NOTE: Choosing the correct currency is very important and cannot be changed later. If you want to pay for your Facebook ads using a different currency you will have to create an entirely new Ad Account, so make sure to choose the normal currency you normally use!

Next, another box will pop up asking what this ad account will be used for. Make sure to select the top “My Business” option, the click “Create”.

Step 3: Add People and Permissions

After your account is created, you will be prompted to add someone as the administrator of the ad account. You will likely only have yourself listed, so click on your name, then click the “Manage Ad Account” toggle, then click Assign. This will give your personal Facebook profile full permission to create ads in your ad account for your business.

Step 4: Add a Payment Method

You will receive a message that your ad account has been created along with your unique ad account number. However, you aren’t finished quite yet!

You should add a valid payment method as soon as possible. Facebook has a history of blocking accounts that do not have valid payment methods attached to them, so it is a good idea to add a payment method even if you aren’t planning on running ads immediately.

On the next page, confirm your currency is correct, then click Edit on Business and Tax Info. Enter your business name (or personal name if you don’t have a different business name), along with your address. This is very important to do because Facebook wants to validate your information, and it is a good idea to enter it all so your account does not get accidentally banned.

Choose your preferred payment method and click Next. Enter your card details to save them to your account.

Congratulations, you have now created a proper Facebook Ad Account!

If you are working with a partner to help manage your Facebook Ad account, there are a few additional steps.

First, in the upper left of the same screen click “Users” then “People”:

Next, click the “Add” button in the middle of the screen:

Next, enter the email address of the person you are inviting to work on your account. If you are working with a trusted Facebook Ad Partner you can grant them admin access so they can manage your Ad Account easier, but make sure you trust them and do not grant admin access to someone you don’t trust!

The next window will let you set the necessary permissions for the person you are inviting.

Click on your business name in the middle section, then scroll down on the right hand section until you get to “Manage Page”. Grant permission to Managing the Page by clicking on the toggle.

Next, click “Ad Accounts” on the left hand column, then click your business name in the middle column, then enable “Manage Ad Account” on by clicking the toggle on the right.

Click Invite to invite the person to manage your Page and Ad Account and you are finished!

How To Create a Facebook Business Manager

The Facebook Business Manager is an essential tool to use Facebook to help your business.

Setting up a Business Manager account is completely free and gives you the ability to do many important Facebook related tasks for your business, including managing Instagram and messages directly from Facebook, add team members to run specific parts of your Facebook presence like managing your page and ad account, the ability to see detailed analytics of traffic to your Business Page and more.

If you want to run ads for your business, like I recommend, then having a properly setup Facebook Business Manager is very important!

In this post I will walk you through the step by step creation of your Business Manager page so you can start using Facebook to help your business and get more customers!

Step 1: Go To The Facebook Business Manager Website

Go directly to and log in to Facebook using your normal account. Next, click “Create Account” in the top right hand corner to start creating your Facebook Business Manager.

Step 2: Business Details

Enter your Business details in the box that pops up, including your business name, your own name, and your business email address.

It’s best to use a different email from your normal Facebook account login email. If you have for your business then use that, otherwise you can create a separate Gmail account for business related activities and use that.

Click submit on the bottom right when you have entered the information.

Sometimes Facebook will ask you to enter more information about your business. Enter your business address if you have one, or if you work from home you can enter your home address.

One important note: At the bottom of this page is a checkbox that says “This account primarily uses Facebook tools or data to: Promote its own goods or services OR Provide services to other businesses.” You want to choose the first option of “Promote its own goods or services” since you will be promoting for your own business!

Click submit and move onto the next step.

Step 3: Confirm Your Email Address

Facebook will send you an email to confirm the email address you entered. Go to your email and look for the Facebook email, and click the big blue “Confirm Now” button to confirm.

Step 4: Verified Business Manager Home

After confirming your email address you will be sent back to the Business Manager Home page for your business. This will probably look pretty empty at this point, so the next step is to add your Facebook Business Page to your Business Manager so they can be linked together.

Step 5: Add or Create a Facebook Business Page

Next you will either need to Add an existing Facebook Page to your Business Manager or Create a new Facebook Page. Go to the left bar, click Pages, then click Add.

If you don’t have a Business Page yet, click Pages, choose “Create a New Page”, then follow the instructions on our How To Create a New Facebook Page post.

If you do already have a Facebook Page you can add it to your Business Manager account by instead choosing the “Add a Page” option

After clicking Add a Page you will be given a search box. Enter the name of your business that you used when you created your page, which should be the name of your business or your own name if you set up your business page in your name.

When you start typing in this box your Facebook Business Page should appear. Click on it and then click “Add Page” in the bottom right hand corner.

Once your page is added to your Business Manager, you’ve completed the basic steps!

There are a bunch of other things you can now do with your properly setup Business Manager account, including adding team members or outside agencies to help run your Facebook Ads.

How To Create A Facebook Business Page

If you are planning to run ads, the first step is to create a Facebook Business Page. This is required whether you are a traditional brick and mortar business or a solo online entrepreneur.

Regardless of what you are selling online, having a Facebook Business Page will help you look more professional and your customers will expect to be able to find you there.

Luckily, setting up a Facebook Business Page is extremely easy and will only take a couple of minutes!

Step 1: Add Your Business Name and Description

Go to to start creating your business page.

Enter the name of your business if you have one, otherwise feel free to use your own name. This page will be different from your personal Facebook page, so many solo entrepreneurs simply use their own name as the name of their business page.

For the category, pick one that makes the most sense for your business. Try to think of how you would describe your business in a word. You can also choose “Entrepreneur” as a general category if you aren’t sure what to pick.

Finally, add a brief description of your business and what products and services you offer. You only have 255 characters for this section so keep it brief and to the point!

Finally, hit Create Page at the bottom to move to the next step.

Step 2: Adding Images

After your page has been created, a small box will pop up letting you know you can now add images to your newly created page.

Staying on the same page you just created, scroll down on the left hand side until you get to the Images section.

Add a profile picture or logo of your business. The dimensions of this profile picture should be square and at least 180 x 180 pixels.

Next, you should also add a Cover Photo that will appear along the top of the page. This can either be another image of you or a product you sell in your business.

I recommend having this be an image with a quick text description explaining what makes your business unique. You can use a free website like Canva to quickly create a graphic with text over it, or you can simply use a photo you already have.

The dimensions of this cover image should be 1640 x 856 pixels.

Next click Save to move to the next step.

Step 3: Add a Username and Button Action

The basics of your page are now finished, but there are a few more simple things you can do to customize it.

First, you can choose to customize a Username for your page. This will help people find your page, so choose a username that is available and makes sense for your page.

Next, you should also add a “button” which will appear in the top right of the page. This should be the action you want your visitors to take, whether that is visiting your website, sending you an email, or booking a phone call with you.

Simply click the “Add a Button” box on your page and choose from the list of available actions.

Step 4: Add Other Business Details

Finally, Facebook will prompt you to complete any remaining information in a bar on the left-hand side of your page under the “Set Your Page up for Success” section.

You will have already completed the “Establish Your Page’s Identity” section, so click on the “Provide Info and Preferences” section to open it.

In this section, you can add any relevant information about your business including your website, location, and phone number.

If a section does not apply to your business, such as if you do not have business hours or an address, then feel free to leave those sections blank.

Step 5: Next Steps

Congratulations, you’ve now done everything you need to to create your own Facebook Business Page!

You can now use this page as much or as little as you want. Feel free to publish new posts, engage with customers, or simply keep the page as it is if someone searches for you.

Even if you do not plan to actively use your Business Page it’s important to have one for several reasons, mainly to have the ability to run ads and keep your personal and business Facebook worlds separate.
